With over 2 million restaurants in India, chipotle is the global go-to restaurant brand.
But its been struggling with declining customer demand in the country, and its chief executive, Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., has been stepping up to tackle that problem.
Chipotle will unveil its new “Lifestyle” food concept in the United States on March 10, the company announced Wednesday.
It will focus on providing more health-conscious, healthier food options for its customers and its partners.
It says it will add more than 1,000 new locations in the U.S. to accommodate the growth.
The company’s latest move comes amid growing pressure on Chipotle to make changes in the way it serves its customers.
Earlier this month, the U-T San Diego Food & Wine Festival canceled its celebration of the restaurant chain’s 50th anniversary because of the company’s lackluster food service.
Chipotles move to expand beyond India comes at a time when the restaurant industry is also looking to increase its footprint.
Chipotle is investing in an expansion plan in the Philippines, the first step in a broader strategy to increase sales and revenue in the region.
The company’s global headcount is expected to hit 10,000 people in the coming years.
